Fiesta Celebration, A Night In Old San Antonio

fiesta san antonioDuring April, there’s an eleven day celebration that you don’t want to miss!  The Fiesta Celebration encompasses 100 events with Parades, Art Shows, Concerts, Athletic Events and more.  It’s a wonderful celebration raising money and awareness for Non Profits in San Antonio. Each official event of the 2012 Feista is produced by a local nonprofit organization or military unit.

NIOSA is a celebration of “A Night In Old San Antonio” that will occur during the 11 day Fiesta from April 24 – 27 from 5:30 to 10:30 each night.  The event began in 1937 as a way to celebrate the Native American heritage of the City. This event has grown to a year long endeavor that is orchestrated by over 16,000 volunteers.  One of the traditions (and time consuming tasks) is the creation of cascarones (Confetti-filled eggs) and lavish paper flowers and banners.

The 2012 San Antonio Fiesta Celebration will include:  The Fiesta Mariachi at the River Walk, Fort Sam Houston Fiesta Ceremony and Fireworks, Fiesta Carnival, Fashion Show, Lackland Military Parade, A Battle of Flowers Parade (it’s Military Drill Teams – not sure where the name came from), Wine Tastings, Soccer Games, Wildflower Bike Ride and MORE (here’s a Schedule of Events).

There are tons of great places to hang out around the Fiesta activities in San Antonio, including  restaurants near The Pearl, Southtown and River Walk.
